The Niles District Library will ring in the new year with the opening of a new art exhibit.
"Quilts in Revue," an exhibit of quilts made by local artists, will open on Friday, Jan. 2 and will run until Feb. 21. The quilts will be featured in the Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery, located in the Library's Rotunda.
All of the quilts are designed and created by members of the Niles Piecemakers.
The 75-member group was established in 1988 and meets at the Library on the fourth Monday of every month.
Their monthly meeting includes a program about quilting followed by a show and tell.
They also hold an open sew at the Library on the first Thursday and the third Saturday of every month. These meetings give members time to quilt and receive help with their projects if necessary.
Every year, the group raffles off one of their quilts to benefit Habitat for Humanity. They also donate a number of baby quilts to local hospitals and shelters.
The Niles Piecemakers have members that range from novice to expert and everyone is welcome to join.
Spencer said this year's exhibit will feature 46 quilts of all shapes and sizes.
According to library officials, "the designs for the quilts were adapted from traditional and modern quilt patterns with fabric and color playing a major part in the final, creative work."
The quilts are adorned with everything from metallic thread and ribbon to fabric flowers and buttons.
The sizes range from a small 10 inch square to a large 52 inch by 60 inch quilt.
