Frosh, JV sweep Buchanan

The Dowagiac junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams were both victorious Monday night against host Buchanan.
The Chieftain freshman squad defeated the Lady Bucks, 17-15 and 15-11.
Brittany Bruens led Dowagiac with three kills and five aces. Jill Wiesemes had three assists.
Dowagiac is now 2-2-2 on the year.
The junior varsity defeated the Lady Bucks, 15-2, 6-15 and 15-9.
Jill Billingham led the Chieftains with nine kills. Ashley Willis had five assists, while Kristen Armstrong had three aces. Billingham also had a solo block.
Dowagiac is now 4-2 on the year.
On Saturday at the Coloma Invitational, Dowagiac took second.
The Chieftains finished in first place after pool play as they defeated Benton Harbor in two, lost to Eau Claire in two and then defeated Edwardsburg in two.
In the semifinals Dowagiac swept Berrien Springs in two games. Dowagiac lost in two games to Eau Claire in the finals.
Billingham had 19 kills to lead the Chieftains, who also got 15 kills from Ann O'Keefe. Willis finished with 19 assists and Kristin Schinske 12 assists. Dowagiac got five aces from Jolynn Hawkins and four each from O'Keefe and Billingham.
