The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team may have gotten off to a slow start Saturday at the Gull Lake Invitational, however, the Chieftains finished on a high note.
The Chieftains won the Silver Seed portion of the Gull Lake Invitational with a sweep of Homer and Parchment.
Dowagiac opened up the day by being swept by Battle Creek Harper Creek, 11-15 and 13-15, before splitting with Paw Paw (14-16, 15-10) and Allegan (16-14, 10-15).
In Power Pool play, Dowagiac was swept by Hudsonville, 8-15 and 7-15, and then split with Gull Lake, 11-15 and 15-13.
That placed Dowagiac in the Silver Seed portion of the tournament (consolation round).
The Chieftains defeated Homer, 15-7 and 15-9, and then defeated Parchment, 15-8, 11-15 and 15-10.
