Niles wrestlers improve to 6-1 with win at Otsego

The Niles varsity wrestling team survived a non-conference dual match with Otsego Thursday night to improve to 6-1 on the year.
The Vikings fell behind 25-6 early in the match but fought back for a 42-34 victory.
Following Matt Poehlman's pin of Nate Sherman in 51 seconds at 103 pounds, Niles did not score again until the 140-pound match when Rodney Leneway pinned Devon Hicks in 30 seconds.
Trailing 31-12, Kyle Isabel scored a pin for the Vikings at 152 pounds.
Otsego's last victory of the night came at 160 pounds.
From there, Josh Henry (171), Jarrod Collins (189), James Edwards (215) and Dustin Sullivan (275) each pinned their opponents to clinch the victory.
Niles is in action today at the Grant Invitational, of which the Vikings are the defending champions.
Niles then hosts Big-16 Conference West Division foe Lakeshore on Thursday before wrestling in the Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 20.
