STEVENSVILLE -- The host Lakeshore Lancers exploded for 32 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to rout Edwardsburg, 78-48.
What had been a close game for three quarters turned into a blow out as the Lancers outscored the Eddies (0-1) 32-7 in the final eight minutes.
Lakeshore scored 21 points in the opening quarter, while Edwardsburg scored 15 points. The Eddies cut the Lancers' lead to 33-30 at the intermission as they outscored them, 15-12, in the second quarter.
Lakeshore extended its lead to 46-41 in the third quarter as it outscored Edwardsburg by a basket, 13-11.
Nick Freer led the Lancers with 15 points. Steve Hicks and Shaine Tierney both scored 13 points, while Rimas Varanauskas added 11 points and Trent Frank 10.
Edwardsburg was led by Phil Bretschneider's nine points. Nick Roth added eight points and Doug Shuttleworth seven.
The Eddies return to action on Dec. 19 when they travel to Bridgman to open up Lakeland Conference play.
The Eddies will not play their first home game until after the first of the year.
Following the Bridgman contest next Tuesday night, the Eddies, Cassopolis, White Pigeon and Dowagiac will play in the Sturgis Invitational.
The tournament is being played at White Pigeon High School on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30.
Edwardsburg's first home game will be Jan. 6, 2004 against River Valley.
