Lady Rangers bow out in district tourney finals

MARCELLUS -- The Cassopolis varsity basketball team went 18 minutes without a basket Friday night in the Class C District Basketball Tournament championship game.
As a result, White Pigeon cruised to a 35-19 victory.
The loss ended the Lady Rangers' season at 16-6. White Pigeon (15-7) advanced to tonight's region contest at Ross Beatty High School against Kalamazoo Christian. Bridgman, winner of the Buchanan district, will face Watervliet in the other game.
The Lady Rangers were held scoreless for 18 minutes between the second and fourth quarters.
Cassopolis did not score a single point in the third quarter as White Pigeon opened up 25-13 lead heading into the final period.
Cona Marshell led the Lady Rangers with seven points, while Jealyn Foston was held to five points before fouling out.
Brooke Baechler led all scorers with 16 points.

The Cassopolis varsity basketball team advanced to the Class C district finals with an easy victory over Centreville on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The Lady Rangers raced out to a 17-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Cassopolis outscored Centreville 13-10 in the second quarter and then 16-10 in the third quarter.
The Lady Rangers held a 11-8 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter as well.
Chaquitta Danzy had 20 points to lead all scorers, while Cona Marshall had nine points and Kelsey Gordon eight points.
