NILES -- Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz said this morning the investigation into the death of Karen Elizabeth Reeves, 34, of 1113 Carberry Road, Niles, is continuing today.
His office has yet to release any information about Reeves' death other than it is being investigated as a possible homicide.
Reeves was found dead by Michigan State Police troopers at the Carberry Road home on Monday shortly after noon. She apparently suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Reeves lived at 1113 Carberry with the home's owner, Steven Phelps, who owns the Beachcomber Resort in the Barron Lake area of Howard Township.
On May 24, 1982, Phelps' girlfriend, Patricia Jo Lutin, then 28, was shot to death at his Carberry Road home. Phelps was charged with second degree murder in her killing but was acquitted by a Cass County jury. He claimed he shot Lutin in self defense during an argument in which the two were struggling with a .38 caliber gun.
