Coloma defense stops Eddies drive to win first round contest

COLOMA -- This time around the Coloma defense was too much for the Edwardsburg offense.
After having combined for nearly 800 yards in total offense in their first meeting, Coloma was able to limit Edwardsburg to 137 yards in a 42-19 victory Friday night in the opening round of the Division 5 playoffs.
The Comets outscored the Eddies 16-6 in the first quarter and never looked back in rolling up 277 yards on the ground and another 127 through the air.
Lawrence Jackson led the Comets (10-0) with 105 yards. Farrid Coleman finished with 90 yards.
Quarterback Erich Biggart completed 7-of-12 passes without an interception. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground.
Edwardsburg finished with 92 yards passing and 45 yards passing. The Eddies completed just 7-of-23 attempts with three interceptions, one of which was returned 25 yards by Coloma's Brian Rogers for a touchdown.
Derek Tighe finished with 76 yards rushing.
The Comets will face undefeated Battle Creek Pennfield, a 48-16 winner over Allendale, in Battle Creek on Friday night for the district championship.
