Friday night the Cassopolis Rangers will be seeking their first ever district championship in football.
The Rangers will take on the Gobles Tigers, a team they defeated 20-8, in the second week of the regular season.
Cassopolis, which has reached the playoffs more than any other Lakeland Conference school, is playing in their second district championship game.
The Rangers were defeated by eventual state champion Battle Creek Pennfield back in 1992.
According to veteran Ranger coach Pete Anderson, Cassopolis is returning to its glory days with this playoff run.
Anderson added that the Rangers rely heavily on the ground game which is the 'heart and soul' of this year's unit.
Anderson noted that the offensive line has improved throughout the season with outstanding efforts from tackles Kyle Majewski, Korey Bloss; guards Scotty Hartsell and Jimmy Yuhas and center Spencer Hardisty.
The defense has also played extremely well at times this season and in order for the Rangers to have a chance Friday night against the Tigers, Anderson said it must shut down their powerful offense.
