Poor shooting cost the Dowagiac varsity basketball team a shot at creating a winning streak.
The Chieftains were outscored 13-1 in the first quarter as host Coldwater posted a 36-21 Big-16 Conference non-division victory Thursday night.
After the first quarter the Chieftains played even with the Lady Cardinals. Coldwater only outscored Dowagiac by one point in each of the last three quarters, however, the damage had already been done.
The Lady Cardinals led 19-6 at the intermission and 27-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
Valerie Johnson came off the bench to lead Dowagiac in scoring as she tallied eight points. Jennifer Pilot added six points.
