Niles falls in first round of conference tournament

The Niles varsity soccer team lost 4-1 to Kalamazoo Central in the first round of the Big-16 Conference Tournament Tuesday night in Kalamazoo.
The Vikings, now 3-11-1, will take on either Mattawan or Battle Creek Central Thursday in the loser's bracket. If Niles faces Battle Creek Central, the game will be held in Niles; if the Vikings face Mattawan, the game will be in Mattawan.
Niles trailed 2-0 at halftime before Kyle Kidwell's goal off an assist from Gilles Nsengiyumva cut the lead to 2-1.
The Giants, however, tacked on two more goals to seal the victory.
Kalamazoo Central outshot Niles 11-4. Cory Coquillard had six saves in goal for the Vikings.
