The Cassopolis Rangers, ranked No. 9 in the latest Division 7 poll, had to wait overnight, but it was well worth it to remain undefeated in the Lakeland Conference with a 8-7 victory over visiting Berrien Springs on Saturday.
Friday night's game was halted by lightning and resumed Saturday afternoon in the opening quarter.
Berrien Springs grabbed a 7-0 lead in the second quarter when Joseph Patterson scored on a one-yard run and Robert Schadt added the extra point kick.
The score remained that way until the fourth quarter when Cassopolis quarterback Ashton Danzy scored on a five-yard run.
Kirk Baucom added the two-point conversion with a run to give the Rangers the lead.
It was Baucom's interception with 1:04 remaining in the contest that sealed the victory for the Rangers.
Neither team moved the ball well thanks to some outstanding defense.
Berrien Springs finished with 91 yards rushing and 37 yards passing.
The Rangers managed 122 yards on the ground, but just six yards through the air.
E.J. Harris led the Rangers in rushing with 61 yards.
Danzy also had an interception for the Rangers, who improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Lakeland Conference.
The Rangers travel to Coloma Friday night to face the defending conference champions. Coloma was upset by Cassopolis last season.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Berrien Springs 0 7 0 0 -- 7
Cassopolis 0 0 0 8 -- 8
BS -- Joseph Patterson 1 run (Robert Schadt kick)
