CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. announces "Cass County Haunted Woods 2003 -- Shock and Awe."
This year's event is sponsored by Cass County Community Policing, Cass County Sheriff's Office and Cass County Parks Department to provide economical family-oriented activities.
Haunted Woods takes place Friday, Oct. 10, and Saturday, Oct. 11, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Dr. T.K. Lawless Park on Monkey Run Street, southeast of Vandalia.
Take M-60 east, then Lewis Lake Road south to Monkey Run.
Proceeds of past years' events provide funding for a speed trailer used throughout the county, radar detectors, video units and digital cameras for use in the road patrol squad cars.
The group is currently working to establish a scholarship in memory of Deputy Shane Britton.
Deputy Britton was a member of the Cass County Sheriff's Office who died in an automobile accident in 2000 while on duty and responding to a call from another officer for assistance.
A donation is made each year to the Parks Department as well.
Haunted Woods includes a children's friendly trick or treat trail, scare trail, face painting, pumpkin painting, balloon tying, entertainment, refreshments, hay rides, camp fires and movies. Cost is $3 per person.
Attendance ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 individuals over the two-day event.
You can be part of the fun. They are looking for additional community members to join their team, from the concept stage, planning, designing, building the scares, coordinating activities and staffing the event.
Call Community Policing at 269/445-1214 to find out how your talents can be put to creative use and you can be part of the excitement.
