Bucks hold off ‘Cats

The Buchanan and Brandywine tennis teams made up Monday a critical Lakeland Conference dual match that was originally scheduled last week but postponed due to rain.
The Bucks held off a pesky Brandywine squad for a 5-3 win to remain unbeaten in league play. Brandywine dropped to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Buchanan's Ashley Shepherd beat Jenny Zellman 6-0, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 singles and Jaclyn Mummaw beat Brandywine's Amanda Hancock 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Brandywine's Jenny Cowen beat Lizzy Thornton 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Amy Konopinski earned the split of the singles matches with her 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katrina Weldy at No. 4 singles.
The Buchanan No. 1 doubles team of Chelsea Ghatoaura and Tracy Brelowski beat Christine Dvorak and Bethany Daniel 6-4, 6-3 before Felicia Lotsbaich and Brittany Harrington edged Brandywine's Lisa Konopinski and Kristin Peters 6-4, 2-6 and 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.
The Buchanan No. 3 doubles team of Hannah Flood and Megan Vylonis beat Amber Valentine and Ashley Valentine before Brandywine's Cooper and Schlutt beat Terra Linville and Nicole Moyer 6-4, 6-2.
Buchanan hosts the Lakeland Conference Tournament Friday morning at Leeper Park in South Bend, Ind.
Brandywine hosts Eau Claire for a non-conference match Wednesday at 4 p.m.
