Fatal crash in City on Saturday

There was a fatal single vehicle, single occupant traffic crash Saturday, Sept. 27 at 12:19 p.m. in the City of Niles.
Tom Michael Salisbury, 35, 743 Maple Street, Niles, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound on S. 11th Street (also M-51) when the vehicle left the roadway south of Silverbrook Ave. then struck several traffic signs, a utility pole, and a fire hydrant, according to the police report.
Tom Salisbury was fatally wounded from these collisions and the Monte Carlo was extensively damaged.
Three parked vehicles in the Tyler Automotive dealership were damaged from flying debris. The originating cause of this accident is still under investigation.
Witnesses to this traffic crash are asked to call the accident investigators Officer David Schoff or Officer Kevin Kosten at the Niles City Police Department.

On Friday, Sept. 26 in the afternoon, a Narcotics Search was conducted at 404 N 4th St., Apt 3, Niles by the Berrien County Narcotics Unit, the Berrien County Sheriffs Road Patrol and the Niles City Police Dept.
Arrested was Terry Dewayne Vogelsang, 35, 404 N 4th St, Niles, on the charges of possession of crack cocaine w/Intent to distributeand maintaining a drug house.
On Sept. 29, at 3:30 p.m. the Berrien Co Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Berrien Co Sheriffs Road Patrol and the Niles City Police (Chief Ric Huff &Lt. Fulton Moore), served a search warrant for narcotics at 404 N 4th St, Niles.
Officers seized 17 packets of crack cocaine with a street value of $850, an electronic scale, and packaging material. Officers also seized $235 cash, two police radio scanners, and other electronic equipment under civil forfieture. The search warrant was the result of a two week investigation into narcotics trafficking at that address initiated with the assistance of citizens in the neighborhood.
The suspect, Terry Vogelsang, was observed by officers leaving the residence and was stopped by patrol officers when they observed Volgelsang and a second occupant of the his vehicle with open containers of alcohol.
Officers seized the narcotics and other evidence when the search warrant was served at the apartment. Vogelsang was lodged in the Berrien Co Jail pending arraignment on the charges listed.
