The public is invited to the latest one-man exhibit at the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival Gallery -- the work of noted pastel artist Al Harris Jr. The show opens Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Festival Gallery, located in the Huntington Bank, 207 Commercial St., Dowagiac,
From 4 to 6, Dogwood will host a meet-the-artist reception at their offices and gallery in the bank building.
For over two decades, the name of Al Harris has garnered recognition in every kind of art venue throughout Michigan, from juried shows to galleries to universities to national traveling exhibits. His work has also caught attention at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, where he has twice won awards, and at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he was chosen for a solo exhibit.
Winner of numerous awards, Harris finds his subject matter primarily in portraits. His use of pastels in a "painterly style" results in work now displayed across the country and in London. In 2002, he was honored with a retrospective at the Black Arts and Cultural Center in Kalamazoo. His work will be on display at the Dogwood Gallery through December.
