Meet Matt Hamill, returning home to Niles

Niles Community Schools is welcoming 32 new teachers and counselors to the district this year. This continues a series of profiles introducing new teachers to the Niles community.
Matt Hamill
How many years of teaching experience do you have?
None, recent graduate.
Where do you come from and where have you taught in the past?
I am from Niles and student taught last year at Holt School just south of Lansing.
Where did you get your teachers education?
Michigan State University.
What will you teach at Niles Community Schools?
Intro Algebra, integrated Algebra and learning lab.
Why did you choose to teach in this school district?
Niles is my hometown and my home district.
Do you have family in the area?
What are you looking forward to as a new teacher in this school district?
Coming back as part of the staff that helped me succeed in school.
What did you know about the area before you came here?
Everything.
What do you know about the school district?
Everything.
How did you become interested in teaching?
I enjoy helping students who are in need of guidance and advice as they finish school and prepare for either college or the work force.
What is your family background?
My father is a 767 captain for American Airlines and my mother works at Howard Elementary.
What are some of your hobbies?
Athletics – playing, watching and coaching.
