Niles’ United Way campaign kicks off

NILES -- The most recognizable symbol of United Way campaigns across the county is the goal thermometer.
This year, for the first time, the United Way of Greater Niles has placed a second thermometer in the area. It is located in Niles Township in front of Norandex Inc. at 2825 S. 11th St.
The United Way of Greater Niles also serves those in Bertrand, Howard and Milton Townships. A goal thermometer remains in the traditional downtown location in from of the Four Flags Chamber of Commerce.
Also announced today were the results from the "pacesetter" pledge drive conducted at the Brandywine Public Schools last month.
Employee pledging at Fifth Third Bank is also complete and pledges are up 36 percent over last year.
The campaign kicked off with at Chamber of Commerce After Hours event and a charity golf scramble recently. "Thanks to the generous sponsorship of more than 50 area business, the money raised from this year's golf scramble was up nearly 100 percent," Stauffer said.
This year's campaign goal is $280,000.
