Vikings fourth at Buck Classic

The Niles girls cross country team took fourth place at Saturday's Buck Classic in Buchanan.
Edwardsburg won the event with 46 points. Schoolcraft finished second with 77 and Hartford took third with 112. Niles came in fourth with 136 and Bronson scored 159 to finish fifth. Other teams participating but not turning in a team score included Buchanan, Cassopolis, Coloma, Galien, Benton Harbor Countryside Charter, Three Rivers, Berrien Springs and Granger Christian.
Two Niles runners finished in the top 25, winning a meet T-shirt. Senior Elle Glueckert led the team with an 18th-place finish at 24:05. Sophomore Whitney Shearer came in 23rd at 24:49.
Also finishing for Niles was Amanda Baxter in 29th place at 25:26, Kaylee Bonner in 30th place at 25:34, Tami Madison in 36th place at 26:26, Melissa Wuthnow in 39th place at 26:49 and Lindsey Leech in 41st place at 27:06.
In the junior varsity race Niles' Meghen Flynn finished seventh overall at 27:59. Amanda Smith finished at 31:42 and Sarah Barth finished at 35:07.
Niles returns to action Wednesday as it hosts a Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division jamboree at SMC in Dowagiac.
