ALLEN PARK -- After adding Alex Molden on Mondy to its defensive backfield, the Lions continued to try to bolster its defensive unit by claiming Roderick Babers from waivers on Tuesday.
To clear a spot for Babers, the Lions waived seventh-round draft pick Blue Adams.
The loss of starter Chris Cash for the season has prompted these moves. Cash suffered a knee injury in the third preseason game. The team also placed veteran corner Chris Watson, who was slated to be fourth on the depth chart going into camp, on the Injured Reserved list Sunday due to a neck injury.
The move was also neccessary following Detroit's performance on Sunday against the Cardinals. Arizona quarterback Jeff Blake threw for 363 yards.
Babers (5-9, 192) was a fourth-round draft selection by the New York Giants in the 2003 NFL Draft. The former Texas Longhorn was an All Big 12 Conference first team selection in 2002. He recorded five interceptions in his career--three of which were returned for touchdowns.
A seventh-round draft pick out of Cincinnati, Adams led the Lions in interceptions in the preseason with two. He was named to the original 53-man roster, but he was inactive for the season opener against Arizona.
