CASSOPOLIS -- A crash Friday night at the intersection of Leet Road and Beebe Street in Howard Township injured three residents of Cassopolis and Niles.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported his office is investigating the crash at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 5 caused by a 17-year-old Cassopolis man who was not identified running the stop sign.
His car drove southbound across the intersection and into the path of a pickup truck driven by Allen Nelson, 42, of Niles.
Nelson's truck struck the car broadside, causing it to spin off the roadway.
The crash injured the car's driver and a 17-year-old passenger from Niles.
Both individuals were treated by SMCAS, the Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service of Niles, and transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles.
Nelson was treated at the scene and released, the sheriff reported. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Seatbelts were worn by all involved. The crash remains under investigation. Deputies on the scene were assisted by Michigan State Police from the Niles post, Howard Township Fire Department and Howard Township First Responders.
