Granger, Ind., woman killed while walking in Milton Township

CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office, through its investigation and leads provided by the community, was able to locate the driver and vehicle involved in the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run accident on Kline Road in Milton Township.
The accident at 9:11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in the 100 block of Kline Road remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Cass County Prosecutor's Office once completed for charges related to the incident. Deputies were called to the scene after a vehicle struck the victim as she was walking along the side of the road with a friend.
The victim was identified as Melissa Ann Schrader, 20, of Pine Meadow Court, Granger, Ind.
Schrader was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries.
The suspect vehicle had been described as a full-size pickup truck, possibly a newer-style Ford, metallic blue in color, with damage to the front end and front right side of the vehicle.
After striking the victim, the suspect left the scene heading north on Kline Road. Michigan State Police, Edwardsburg Police Department and Edwardsburg fire and ambulance personnel assisted Cass County deputies with the accident scene.
