St. Joseph runs past Dowagiac cagers

An 11-0 run to start the game lifted the St. Joseph Lady Bears to a 56-28 win over visiting Dowagiac Tuesday night in Big-16 Conference West Divison play.
St. Joseph outscored Dowagiac 11-0 in the first quarter and then built a 24-8 halftime advantage on the Chieftains.
St. Joseph outscored Dowagiac 32-20 in the second half, scoring 16 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Dowagiac scored 10 points in each of the last two quarters.
Dowagiac was led offensively by Brianne Reist and Jennifer Pilot, both of whom scored eight points. The Chieftains also got four points from Brittney Reist.
St. Joseph's Carlee Maddox led all scorers with 16 points. Rachel Young added 10 points for the Lady Bears.
Dowagiac (0-2, 0-1) returns to action on Tuesday when it opens the home portion of its schedule against Benton Harbor.
No results were available at press time from either the freshman or junior varsity contests.
