Niles Community Schools is welcoming 32 new teachers and counselors to the district this year. This continues a series of profiles introducing new teachers to the Niles community.
How many years of teaching experience do you have?
This will be my first year teaching.
Where do you come from and where have you taught in the past?
I grew up in Buchanan but right now I live in Mishawaka, Ind.
Where did you get your teachers' education?
Indiana University of South Bend, Ind., two years ago.
What will you teach at Niles Community Schools?
Second grade
Why did you choose to teach in this school district?
The excellence of education here and the friendly staff.
Do you have family in the area?
A lot of my family lives in Buchanan.
What are you looking forward to as a new teacher in this school district?
Making a difference in childrens lives and working with the staff.
What did you know about the area before you came here?
Just the general things, how to find my way around, but no real specifics.
What do you know about the school district?
The basis of the school curriculum. I know it's a very friendly and open staff.
How did you become interested in teaching?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was six or seven years old because I always enjoyed going to school.
What is your family background?
My mother lives in Buchanan and is the manager of a credit union. She has lived there most of her life. My father lives in Colorado and owns his own business.
What are some of your hobbies?
Reading and travelling.
