A 62-yard interception return with less than five minutes to play ended Buchanan's hopes of opening the 2003 football season with a victory Thursday night.
Trailing 13-8, Centreville's Donte Dorris picked off a pass from Buchanan quarterback Gordon Bryant and returned it all the way for what became the winning touchdown. Buchanan was unable to overcome the 16-13 deficit.
Buchanan scored first in the game when Kyle Cornwell scored on a 15-yard carry. Josh Wahlstrom's extra-point kick gave the Bucks a 7-0 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs came back in the third quarter and scored on a two-yard carry by Steve Mostrom. Dorris' two-point conversion carry gave Centreville an 8-7 lead.
Buchanan took back the lead as Cornwell scored his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard carry. The Bucks' two-point conversion attempt failed.
Cornwell finished the game with 78 yards on 16 carries. DuJuan Bennett added 69 yards on 17 carries and Jared Rusher picked up 54 yards on the ground.
The Bucks travel to Bronson next Friday night.
