First day of school in Niles is Monday

NILES -- Niles Community Schools is gearing up for the new school year, which is right around the corner.
The schools will once again be filled with students next week and below contains information provided by the school district to parents and students in the school district.
Monday, Aug. 25 -- Half a day for all grades.
Notification as to whether a Begindergarten/Kindergarten child is to attend morning or afternoon will be made by post card during the week of August 18, 2003.
Tuesday, Aug. 26 -- First full day , all grades.
AM Kindergarten 8:34 to 11:41 a.m.; PM Kindergarten 12:16 p.m. to 3:25 a.m.

Transportation
Transportation information, including a list of bus stop schedules, will be in the school calender.
Kindergarten Testing
All kindergarten students must participate in a school readiness screening. Kindergartners may enroll in school but cannot attend until they are screened. Early enrollment is important so children do not miss school. For more information, call the individual school building.
Immunization Requirements
All new enrollees in the Niles Community Schools must meet current Michigan Department of Health Immunization requirements before they begin school. They should bring a copy of their immunization record when enrolling. Students will be excluded from attendance on the first day of school if immunizations are not up to date.
Seventh Grade Orientation
Orientation for all seventh grade students and for eight grade students who are new to the district, will be at Ring Lardner Middle School, in the cafeteria on August 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. Students with last names beginning A-K will attend on August 19, while students with last names beginning L-Z will attend on August 20.
Adult Education Enrollment
Niles Adult Education enrollment begins on August 18, 2003, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday in the Niles Community Schools Administrative Center, 111 Spruce Street, room 203. Call 684-4480 (evening) or 684-9554 (daytime) for more information.
