NILES -- For Curriculum Development Director Jim Craig and Director of Personnel John Tanke at Niles Community Schools, Monday was a big day.
That was the day they welcomed more than 30 new teachers to the school district.
At Monday's school board meeting, the two spoke about the activities the teachers did on Monday and the activities they will take part in on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The activities are part of getting to know the school district's staff and buildings before school starts.
One of those activities include touring all school buildings in a bus.
Craig and Tanke both belive the district has been able to hire good teachers.
But the many activities, which are done in preparation of next week's school start, also serve a different purpose.
Doug Law, district superintendent, said with so many new teachers arriving from out of town, it's important to make their transition into a new work place and community as easy as possible.
It's the third year in a row the school district has chosen to welcome their new teachers with a New Teacher Orientation.
