PAW PAW -- Registration is underway for the 14th annual Grape Lake 5K Run/Walk Saturday, Sept. 6, at LakeView Community Hospital, beginning at 8 a.m.
The event, sponsored by LakeView and COSY 98.3 Radio, is part of the 2003 Paw Paw Wine and Harvest Festival. More than 375 runners and walkers participated in last year's race.
Early registration through Friday, Aug. 29, is $16 per person. For families, the cost is $16 for each of the first two persons and $10 for each additional person or $50 for up to six immediate family members.
Those who register before Aug. 29 are guaranteed a long-sleeve T-shirt. Late registration is $20 per person and for families, $20 for each of the first two persons and $14 for each additional person.
Packet pick-up and late registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on race day in the parking lot at 505 Hazen St., across the street from the hospital. Persons may register on-line at classicrace.com.
More information is available by calling 657-1475 or at LakeView's website, lakeviewcares.com.
The race begins half a mile north of the hospital on Hazen Street and winds around Maple Lake, finishing at the hospital. It offers a fast, flat TAC-certified course that appeals to runners and walkers alike, according to Jeffrey A. Johnson, vice president of human resources and community services at LakeView.
Classic Race Management of Grand Rapids again this year is managing the race.
It includes use of the ChampionChip timing device, which is attached to each participant's shoe. The device improves the accuracy of race timing. Race results will be posted at classicrace.com.
