Niles golfers second

The Edwardsburg and Cassopolis varsity golf teams opened up their seasons on Tuesday in Bronson and Centreville respectively.
The Eddies competed in the Bronson Invitational, while the Rangers competed in the Centreville-Colon Invitational.
In Bronson the tournament used the Stableford Scoring system which awards points for bogeys, pars, birdies and eagles.
The Eddies finished with 85 points. Battle Creek Harper Creek won the tournament with 145 points, while Niles was second with 122 points and Coldwater third with 121 points. Rounding out the Top 5 were Hanover-Horton and Jackson Northwest, both of whom finished with 118 points.
The remaining order of finish was Parma Western with 112 points, Michigan Center with 105 points, Bronson with 94 points, Athens with 85 points, Edwardsburg with 83 points, Springport with 66 points, Quincy and Sturgis with 60 points, Battle Creek Central with 58 points and Union City with 51 points.
No Niles individual results were available at press time.
Jon Muff led the Eddies with 25 points as he shot 89. Nick Roth scored 23 points after shooting 84. Jesse Johnson finished with 18 points after shooting 90, while Sam Ludwig and Adam Horn both finished with 17 points after shooting 96 and 91 respectively. Matt Lamberton finished with 15 points after shooting 94.
Cassopolis finished third in Division 4 at the Centreville-Colon Invitational with a team total of 240.
The format was two scramble teams and a best ball team.
Cassopolis' best ball team finished with a score of 72. The scramble teams shot 81 and 87 respectively.
White Pigeon won the division.
Lakeland Conference rival Buchanan finished last in Division 3 with a team total of 241. Dowagiac was ninth in Division 2 with a score of 225.
Dowagiac's best ball team of David Maxey and Kenny Franz shot 76. The scramble team of Adam Carlson and Scott Wilkinson shot 73, while the scramble team of Ken Scott and Austin Lawrence shot 76.
Dowagiac returned to action this morning as it took part in the Berrien Springs Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
The tournament is being held at Indian Lake Hills near Eau Claire.
