NILES -- Nathan Layher has been in too many golf tournaments to list this summer.
Last week, however, the 16-year-old junior-to-be from Buchanan finished first place in a tournament open to players from all over the state.
Layher shot 80-82 for a 36-hole total of 162 to share top honors in his age division at the Century Buick State Junior Golf Championship at Pine View Golf Course on Thursday and Friday, July 31 and Aug. 1.
Layher shared the top spot in the field with Jacob Kneeshaw of Kalamazoo. The two were part of a 12-player field in the 16-year-old boys division.
Layher, who will be a returning member of the varsity golf team at Buchanan High School when the season starts next week, also played on the Meijer Tour this summer.
