The 2003 Berrien County Youth Fair King and Queen contest will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the BCYF Grandstand.
The fair theme is "Putting it All Together in 2003" and the Master of Ceremonies is Phil McDonald.
Entertainment by contestants will entail a short dance routine performed by the contestants to the music of Tracy Byrd (also Friday evening's grandstand performance). Following the routine each contestant will describe a historical fact of interesting location in the State of Michigan.
Contestants will change into an outfit of their choice and have a short interview with the MC onstage.
Judges will then select Queen and King finalists, based on the previous night's one-on-one interview with the judges, entertainment speech, MC stage interview, and overall stage appearance. At this time, each will be asked a different individual surprise question.
A Mr. and Miss Congeniality and King and Queen will be selected as Royalty to reign over the fair week.
Contestants all receive a gift for participating. The King and Queen will each receive $250 Educational Scholarship donated by Michael and Clara Smith, in memory of Al Barbott, Past Fair President, $100 savings bond from the Doug Wise family, along with other items (crown, watch, banner, and trophy).
Mr. and Miss Congeniality each receive $50 savings bond along with other items (crown, watch, banner, and trophy).
The 2003 judges are John Garmire, local businessman and committee leader, Mary Stefanek, 1996 Mrs. South Bend, and Heather Nielson, 1988 Berrien County Youth Fair Queen.
