NILES -- As many Niles residents know, if it's a Wednesday or Thursday evening and you're bored, head downtown for some beautiful music.
The Niles Community Band, a usual staple of the summertime Riverfront Park activities, has only one concert this summer, and that is next Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Jay Crouch, recently retired band director of Brandywine Public Schools and the director of the Community Concert Band series, emphasized the need of people who want to play.
Crouch added that the experience of receiving music only 24 hours before putting on a concert is especially good for high school band students, as it pressures them to improve their sight-reading skills and overall performance.
The concert will be an hour-long program.
Crouch said that he needs 25 to 65 people to play.
Crouch said that the music will contain some marches, some showtune-like selections, and some patriotic themes.
The rehearsal will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the band room at Brandywine High School.
