Glaze qualifies for Hershey national meet

Isiah Glaze, 14, of Niles is one of five youngsters from Michigan who will compete for the Great Lakes Regional Team at the North American Finals of the Hershey's Track and Field Youth Program on Saturday, Aug. 9, in Hershey, Pa.
Glaze was selected for the Regional team after placing first in the 100-meter dash for boys ages 13-14 at the Michigan State Final. His time was 11.89 seconds. He joins 59 other boys and girls ages 9-14 on the Great Lakes Regional Team. The North American Final will include 480 children from throughout the United States and Canada.
The Hershey Youth Program, founded in 1975 by Dr. Donald F. Cohen in Charleston, W. Va., has grown from a local playground event in one community to the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America. The program is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasizes participation and sportsmanship.
Fore more than 20 years, the Hershey Youth Program has involved millions of children from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. The support for this program in Michigan is from the Michigan Recreation and Park Association. It is endorsed by the National Recreation and Park Association, the National Association for Sports &Physical Education, the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and Athletics Canada, and is solely funded by Hershey Chocolate North America.
