CASSOPOLIS -- A South Bend, Ind., man in has been arrested and charges are expected against him for the June 28 home invasion that occurred on Bell Road.
The home invasion, one of more than a dozen similar in nature that occurred in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and in St. Joseph County in Indiana, involved two suspects breaking into a residence, duct-taping the elderly victims, threatening them with a handgun and then taking an unspecified amount of cash, said a press release from the Cass County Sheriff's Department issues Friday night.
Acting on an arrest warrant for first-degree home invasion issued by Cass County Fourth District Court, officers from the South Bend, Ind., Police Department arrested Jonathon Ray Haynes, 28, of South Bend, at approximately 12:30 p.m on Friday.
The warrant was authorized after Cass County detectives, working in conjunction with the Niles Police Department, St. Joseph County, Ind., Police Department and the South Bend Police Department presented evidence to the Cass County Prosecutor's Office linking the suspect to the home invasion.
Haynes was arrested without incident and was awaiting extradition proceedings in South Bend.
Additional arrests are expected as investigation into the string of home invasions by Michiana law enforcement continues.
