CASSOPOLIS -- Two cars collided on M-51 on Wednesday evening, injuring two teen-agers.
The accident occurred at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, on M-51 at Peavine Street in Pokagon Township, said a report from the Cass County Sheriff's Department.
A vehicle driven by 18-year-old Matthew Stewart of Dowagiac and occupied by a 16-year-old female passenger was traveling north on M-51 when a vehicle driven by Robert Ranft, 44, of Niles, pulled into the path of Stewart's vehicle.
The passenger in Stewart's vehicle was trapped and had to be extricated. She was flown from the scene to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Stewart was taken by ambulance to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.
Ranft was not injured in the accident.
The sheriff said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. All parties involved were wearing seatbelts.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Pokagon fire department, Dowagiac fire and ambulance personnel and West Michigan Aircare.
The accident remains under investigation.
