DOWAGIAC -- Changes Contech is making at its Dowagiac facility, M-51 North, will eventually impact about 100 people losing their jobs, but there are no plans right now to close the plant entirely, according to a company spokeswoman.
SPX was founded in Muskegon and was headquartered there until early 2002, when in moved to North Carolina, Betlejewski said.
Contech does die-casting for the automotive industry, making rack-and-pinion steering components.
Betlejewski said the approximately 40 jobs being retained in Dowagiac instead of consolidated at other plants in Indiana and Alma are machining and service work that are unique to this facility.
SPX has 24,000 employees in more than 20 countries and $5.05 billion in sales and revenues derived 67 percent in the United States and 33 percent in Europe.
