The Dowagiac Board of Education unanimously voted this morning to hire Greg Blomgren of Clear Lake, Iowa as its new biology teacher and boys' basketball coach.
According to Dowagiac athletic director Bob Follett, 12 applications were submitted for the position of which four people were interviewed.
Blomgren has been a biology teacher and boys' basketball coach at Clear Lake since 2001. He previously was an assistant at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wis., an assistant coach at Wilmot High School in Kenosha, Wis. and a volunteer assistant coach at St. Joseph's High School in Kenosha.
He graduated from Grand View College in 1996 where he played three years of college basketball. He earned his teaching certification from the University of Wisconsin at Parkside in 1999.
Follett said that some of the reasons that made Blomgren stand out with the selection committee were his relationship skills and his approach to building a program.
Follett added that Clear Lake is a football town much the same way that Dowagiac is.
