Once again the Greater Niles Babe Ruth Baseball League will host the 15-year-old Michigan State Tournament at Thomas Stadium this weekend.
The Niles All-Stars will host two other teams for a two-day tournament.
Niles opens the tournament against Grosse Pointe Woods on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Grosse Pointe Woods then takes on Grosse Pointe South at 3:30 p.m.
Niles takes on Grosse Pointe South at 6 p.m.
The second day of competition will be Sunday and will feature playoff games and will be kicked off with an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast. The cost for the breakfast is $4 per adult, $2 per child ages 7-12 and free for children six and under.
The first game on Sunday will be played at 11 a.m.
Since it is a double-elimination tournament, if a team suffers two losses on the first day it will be eliminated. In that case, the remaining two teams will play each other until one has suffered its second loss of the tournament.
If one team is 2-0 and the others are 1-1, the two teams with 1-1 records will play the first game on Sunday. The winner will advance to play the team with a 2-0 record and the two will play until one team has suffered its second loss.
The schedule for subsequent games, if necessary, on Sunday is 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Should a team play two games on Sunday and still not be eliminated, the final game will be played Monday at a time yet to be determined.
