The U.S. 12 Heritage Trail is trying to be the "most patriotic road in America," decorating with red, white and blue.
All 209 miles of U.S., the route between Detroit and Chicago, Ill., will be showing its patriotism during July. Additional activities to encourage tourism this summer will be Michigan's Longest Garage Sale Aug. 22 and 23, when shops, residents, libraries and school and civic groups set up their wares along U.S. 12.
Later the second weekend in October, pumpkins, corn stalks and scarecrows will be available at farm markets and shops along the Sauk Heritage Trail.
Next May, the history of the U.S. 12 corridor, one of the oldest roads east of the Mississippi, will feature the Early Wheels Festival with antique automobiles, farm equipment, parades and art work.
