CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County's federal designation as part of the South Bend-Mishawaka, Ind., metropolitan area probably won't mean more money from the government.
Proctor added, "It is true that as land is used up on the Indiana side of our border, it goes up in value and price. More and more of the people who are looking for land are buying in Michigan because that's where the available land is. That's been going on for 20 or 30 years. It's very obvious in the south end of our county."
There could be a "silver lining," Proctor said, if the designation keeps Cass from getting overlooked by economic development.
Commissioner Ron Francis, R-Cassopolis, asked Proctor to address the issue at the county board's meeting July 3.
