CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating another home invasion that occurred in the 260 0 block of Center Street at Barron Lake in Howard Township Saturday night, July 5.
Officers were advised by occupants of the home, an elderly couple and their adult son, that at approximately 10:15 p.m. two subjects broke into their home using handguns and demanded money from them.
The suspects then bound their hands and feet using tape and left the residence shortly thereafter.
The suspects were described as two black males, however, further information as to their description or vehicles could not be determined at this time.
While at the scene on Center Street, officers were notified that the City of Niles police and St. Joseph County, Ind., police had reported they were handling home invasions that apparently were perpetrated by the same subjects after the Howard Township incident.
Underwood said this home invasion is another in a string of either attempted or actual home invasions in which older adults are targeted that have been occurring in South Bend and St. Joseph County, Ind., as well as the City of Niles and Cass County in Michigan over the last three months.
Law enforcement officers in all of these counties are working together to solve these incidents, however, it is important that citizens be aware of suspicious persons in their neighborhoods and report them to their local law enforcement agency.
