Dowagiac awarded $393,300 grant

The City of Dowagiac received official notice it has been awarded a $393,300 grant from MSHDA, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, for development and rehabilitation of downtown apartments, according to City Manager William H. Nelson Jr.
City officials will spend the next several weeks working with MSHDA and Community Housing Initiatives finalizing grant documents and administration requirements.
Grant applications should be available to downtown property owners within the next few weeks.

Consultants will be making their presentation on behalf of Cass County and the City of Dowagiac on Friday, July 11, at 9 a.m. in the City Council chamber.
The county Board of Commissioners received a planning grant to determine the best alternatives to providing universal access to telecommunications throughout Cass County.

on '16 in the Park'
Dowagiac was notified that WNDU, Channel 16 in South Bend, Ind., selected the city as one of two communities -- the other is Middlebury, Ind. -- for its "16 in the Park" program this summer.
This involves a live telecast of the 6 and 7 p.m. newscasts from Beckwith Park on Friday, July 11.
Stories are expected to highlight downtown revitalization and the role of arts in the community.
