NILES -- Audrey LaGue has seen flowers and trees grow in her garden for 65 years.
This year, she has had the pleasure of watching her climbing rose bush reach for the sky in all its colorful splendor.
What makes her climbing rosebush special is the fact that two kinds of roses have grown into one bush.
Having crawled its way up along a wooden frame, the rose bush drapes off on both sides of the wooden frame.
The energetic 87-year-old, who lives at 1260 N. 13th St., in Niles, thought her rosebush was no nice, she decided to share it with other people in the community.
Her rosebush consists of white roses on one side and pink roses on the other side.
The white roses are Seven Sisters and the pink roses are 'old fashioned' roses.
The old fashioned pink roses LaGue inherited from her mother a long time ago. She said they are probably over 70 years old.
Having lived on the same property all her life, LaGue's love for flowers began when while she was still young.
Since then the garden on her property has been filled with flowers, trees and bushes of all colors.
LaGue has three children. Torene Miller lives in Niles and takes care of her mother when she needs help doing errands. Her two other children, Theresa Miller and Tom Miller live in Florida.
LaGue was involved with the Brownie Girl Scouts at South Side School for 20 years. She is a faithful member of First Church of Christ Christian on Yankee Street in Niles.
