Calvin weather leaves four hurt

CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating an incident which occurred Saturday, June 28, at Camp Wagner in Calvin Township.
Approximately four subjects were injured at Camp Wagner when severe weather moved through the area between 4 and 4:30 p.m.
The camp was hosting a weekend festival for members of the Seventh-day Adventist Regional Conference.
A large tent had been set up for the activities. Several subjects took shelter under it due to the storm. The weather caused the tent to unhook. The subjects are believed to have been struck by falling poles and the tent.
Three subjects were transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac, treated and released.
The fourth subject, 15 years old, was airlifted from Borgess-Lee Memorial to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo in critical condition.
Cassopolis ambulance, Penn Township fire, Porter ambulance, Dowagiac ambulance, Newberg ambulance and Edwardsburg ambulance were called to the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
