CASSOPOLIS -- He's been here three weeks already, which is long enough for new Prosecutor Victor Fitz to realize Cass County is not as "sleepy" as someone from Muskegon might expect.
County Administrator Terry Proctor Thursday night formally introduced Fitz, 45, to the Board of Commissioners.
This afternoon at 2 he was to be officially sworn in by Circuit Judge Michael Dodge at a courtroom reception with punch and light refreshments.
Fitz pronounced himself "very much impressed" with judges Dodge, Paul Deats and Susan Dobrich.
Fitz also thanked Proctor and Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood for their assistance in acclimating him and in making a smooth transition from second-term prosecuting attorney Scott Teter, who resigned to join Attorney General Mike Cox's staff.
Commissioner David Taylor, D-Edwardsburg, welcomed Fitz by commenting, "It gives me great confidence to know we have a full-time prosecutor on board and the county can feel safe again. I'm very happy he's with us."
