Dowagiac's Sinjin Ownby recently captured the Greco Roman wrestling state championship in the Novice Division.
Ownby also placed sixth in the Free Style Division.
Dowagiac's Kyle Bennett took fourth in the Greco Junior Division at the Michigan Wrestling Federation State Championships.
Both are members of the Dowagiac Loc-N-Toss Wrestling Club, which is coached by John Green, Don Ownby, David Helmuth and Jared Bradford.
Sinjin, who was competing in the 11-12-year-old age bracket, pinned Max Pellfry of Hastings to win the championship on May 23. On Saturday, May 24, Sinjin competed in the free style portion of the tournament, placing sixth out of 11 wrestlers.
Also on Saturday, Bennett waded through a field of 21 wrestlers to take fourth in the Junior Greco Division. Bennett usually competes in the 15-16-year-old age bracket, but had to wrestle up one division because he was unable to compete in the Cadet Division on Friday night.
The Loc-N-Toss Wrestling Club is open to both boys and girls ages five through adult. For more information about the wrestling club, contact Ownby at 782-6573.
Next on tap for the club will be the Michigan Youth Wrestling Association (MYWAY) season. MYWAY is a newly formed association that teaches kids folk style wrestling technique. Folk style is the same type pf wrestling you would see at the scholastic and college level.
The club would like to thank Reverend Dave Helmuth, and the members of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church for the use of the facilities this past spring.
