The Fruitbelt Officials Association recently selected Jim Arnold, girls basketball and softball coach at Niles High School, as the 2002-03 recipient of the Herb Quade Memorial Sportsmanship Award.
The award is presented annually to an individual exemplifying the high ideals in coaching and sportsmanship that Quade always represented during his 50 plus years as a coach, administrator and official. A plaque will be presented to Arnold commemorating the achievement.
Coaches are selected annually from each of the seven sports the association supports, and a winner is selected from this group. Others nominated for the award were: Bob Welton of South Haven and Bob Schau of Galien (football), Randy Cox of Michigan Lutheran and Mike Vota of Niles (baseball), Denny Parks of Niles and Jeff Leslie of Berrien Springs (boys basketball), Ron Briney, Jr. of Michigan Lutheran (girls basketball), and Dawn Knuth of Berrien Springs (volleyball).
Each nominee will be presented with a certificate commemorating their achievement.
