The Michigan High School Athletic Association has released its initial seedings for the upcoming track and field finals, to be held at various sites around the state on Saturday, May 31.
Locally, three athletes will be taking part in the finals.
Niles senior Jason Todd will compete in the Division 2 Finals at Caledonia High School.
Brandywine seniors Lacey Hutchings and Nikki Smith will compete in the Division 3 Finals at Comstock Park High School.
Todd is the No. 15 seed in the 800-meter run. His time of 1:59.49 at the regional meet was one of just 16 to break the two-minute barrier.
Hutchings is the No. 4 seed in the shot put. Her toss of 37-3.25 at the regional meet was one of only five farther than 37 feet.
Smith is the No. 16 seed in the high jump and the No. 21 seed in the 300-meter hurdles. She was one of 10 competitors to qualify for the high jump with a leap of 4-11. Her qualifying time of 51.4 in the hurdles is five seconds off No. 1 seed Katie Pickette's (Hopkins) time of 46.0.
