NILES --Quick response to a call of a suspicious vehicle at a North 15th Street home Thursday night led to the apprehension of two suspects and a lengthy, late-night search for another.
However, Niles City Police Chief Ric Huff said the suspects, two of whom were arrested in the yard of the home, are apparently not the suspects who have been terrorizing Niles area residents recently in a rash of armed home invasions and robberies.
A third suspect fled on foot. City police officers, along with its canine unit, searched from about 11:30 p.m. until around 2 a.m. for the third suspect, to no avail.
He said one of the biggest obstacles his officers face in putting an end to the robbery spree is hesitation by residents to call the police when they see something suspicious.
Huff advised residents to look around outside before they leave their home, particularly at night.
And, if you are approached by someone wanting to rob you or otherwise do you harm, he advised to remain calm.
