CASSOPOLIS -- The opening Friday morning of the Broadway Cafe, in the place of the former Pop's Diner, was welcomed by Cassopolis residents who like to eat breakfast anytime of the day and enjoy homemade soups.
Pete Procopi is living upstairs at 158 Broadway, but getting very little sleep with open hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. He even is intending to add a banquet room upstairs and start catering soon.
Broadway Cafe offers a full family friendly menu with everything from steaks to burgers and many Greek favorites like gyros and Grecian pork chops.
Procopi's siblings and father are all in the restaurant business with previous locations on M-31 in Roseland and the Family Garden in Town and Country in Mishawaka, Ind. and a pancake house named Flapjacks opening soon at the former Ponderosa near the South Bend Regional Airport.
The idea to come to Cass County came from a Cassopolis resident who is a waitress in Granger, Ind. She suggested Procopi look into an empty restaurant in downtown Cassopolis. "We could use a good sit down restaurant," the woman told him.
He plans on employing about 15. Manager is Jim Patton of Mishawaka, Ind. Call (269) 445-2232 for carryouts.
